갤러리 팔조 대구에서는 박지훈, 나동석, YALL, 김종승의 ‘숨다, 외치다, 태우다, 헤엄치다‘展을 2024년 7월 12일부터 8월 10일까지 개최합니다. 영아티스트 시리즈인 이번 전시는 현재 독일, 서울, 대구에서 활동하며 스스로를 탐구하고 다양하게 실험해 가고 있는 이들 작가의 회화, 사진, 설치, 디지털 페인팅 그리고 영상 작품을 선보입니다.

Gallery Palzo in Daegu will hold the ‘Hide, Shout, Burn, Swim’ exhibition by Jihoon Park, Kiefer Na, YALL, and Jongseung Kim from July 12 to August 10, 2024. This exhibition, part of the Young Artists Series, will present paintings, photographs, installations, digital paintings, and video works by these artists, currently active in Germany, Seoul, and Daegu, Korea who are exploring themselves and experimenting diversely.

박지훈 작가는 회화적이면서도 기계적인 특성을 갖추고 있으며 아날로그적인 감각을 디지털에 옮겨 놓는 시도를 해오고 있다. 이번 전시에서는 <숨어서 본 사람들>이라는 주제로 제작된 영상과 그 영상에 활용된 각 프레임들을 프린팅하여 보여준다. 그는 “기존의 애니메이션 프레임이 아닌 24+1의 프레임을 사용했다”며, +1에 해당되는 25번째의 프레임을 강조하며 설치했으며, 이를 통해 “대상을 유심히 들여다보는 것의 어려움과 그 가치를 보여주고자 한다.”고 했다. 그는 자신을 “관찰자”로서 타인을 관찰하는 것을 즐기며, 관찰을 통한 자신만의 해석을 바탕으로 이미지를 그리는 내적인 작업이다.

Artist Park Jihoon's works possess painterly and mechanical characteristics, reflecting his ongoing attempt to bring analog sensibilities into the digital. In this exhibition, he shows a video titled 'People in Hiding,' along with prints of each frame used in the video. He mentioned that he used '24+1 frames' instead of the usual animation frames, and installed with emphasis on the '+1 frame,' which is the 25th frame. Through this, he explained the difficulty and value of closely observing an object. As an observer, he enjoys watching others and creating images based on his own interpretations through this internal process.

나동석작가는 디지털 페인팅과 이를 기반으로 만들어진 영상 작업을 보여준다. 이번 전시에서 선보이는 사진 작업 <빛나는 도시>와 디지털 페인팅 작업<도시 풍광>, 그리고 <경계 광장>은 서울의 각 건축물과 형태에 자신만의 시각과 감정을 은유적으로 담아낸 것으로 특정한 건물들의 형태 변화 혹은 의미화와도 관련된다. 그는 도시의 다양한 층위와 지역을 분석해서 자신만의 도시적 풍광을 그리며, 그 풍광 속에서 한국 사회가 얼마나 다양한 모습과 범주를 가지고 있는지를 보여주고자 한다.

Artist Kiefer Na shows digital paintings and video works based on them. This exhibition presents his photographic work , digital painting works , and . These pieces metaphorically capture his unique perspective and emotions towards various architectural forms in Seoul, imbuing specific buildings with transformed meanings. He explores various social strata and areas of the city to create his own urban scenery, aiming to depict the diverse aspects and categories within Korean society through these scenes.

YALL 작가는 불타버린 나무, 재, 연탄, 녹슨 못, 불꽃 등 우리 주변에 존재하는 오브제들에 집중한다. 일순간 타올랐다가 사라지고, 녹슨 흔적은 일면 “기능의 상실”을 의미하기도 한다. 작가는 그런 기능이 상실된 오브제들에 장소적 특성을 더해 공간에 배치하고 조합하여 작품으로 만든다. 이번 전시에서 타버린 1만여 개의 불에 탄 성냥을 주요 오브제로 만든 설치를 보여준다. “수많은 성냥은 마치 셀 수 없이 많은 사람들의 군상으로 보여집니다. 그 모습은 가까이 보았을 때 타고난 성냥처럼 미약하고 불안정해 보일 수 있지만 멀리 바라보았을 때 이 세상 속 우리는 한 폭의 그림처럼 추상적이고 아름다운 형상으로 보여집니다. 우리는 그렇게 타고난 군상입니다.” 라고 작가는 말한다.

The artist Yall focuses on objects around us, such as burnt wood, ashes, charcoal, rusted nails, and flames, which momentarily blaze and disappear, with rusted traces sometimes symbolizing 'loss of function.' He arranges and combines these functionless objects with spatial characteristics to create artworks. In this exhibition, he presents an installation featuring over ten thousand burnt matches as the main objects. 'The numerous matches appear like countless portraits of people. Up close, they may seem fragile and unstable like burnt matches, but from a distance, within this world, we appear as abstract and beautiful figures. We are such innate figures,' the artist explains.

김종승 작가는 물성의 질감과 색감에 집중하여 다양한 물감을 서로 다른 종류의 바탕천에 혼합시켜 자신만의 이미지를 만들어왔다. 근래에는 사진 연작을 통해 자신의 작품세계를 확장시키고 있다는 작가는 그에게 자연과 신체, 그리고 자유로움은 삶의 중요한 요소들로, 그 중에 수영을 작업적 연장선상으로 가져와 독일 Halle 주변의 호숫가, 수영장 등에서 직접 라이트를 들고 수영하면서 공간 속에 새로운 선(Neue Linien)을 그린다. 선을 그린다는 행위에서 평면 작업과 사진 작업은 일종의 유사성을 가진다. 그의 이번 전시회에서의 회화와 사진 작품은 경계를 넘는 이행(Übergang)으로 보여진다.

Artist Kim Jongseung has focused on textures and colors of materials, blending various paints on different types of canvases to create his own distinctive imagery. Lately, the artist has been expanding his artistic world through a series of photographs. For him, nature, the human body, and freedom are essential elements of life, with swimming serving as an extension of his artistic practice. He integrates swimming into his creative process, using light as he swims around lakeshores and swimming pools near Halle, Germany, to draw new lines within these spaces. His paintings and photographs in this exhibition are perceived as transitions that transcend boundaries.
