고양이 작가로 잘 알려진 이경미(b. 1977, 경주) 작가의 대구에서의 첫 전시인‘Last night and Neurath's boat(지난 밤과 노이랏의 배)’展는 지난 작가적 여정을 보여주는 여러 시리즈의 주요 작품이 전시됩니다.

개인적으로 암울했던 시기를 함께 한 반려묘 ‘나나’를 캔버스, 유리병, 우드패널 등에 담아 자신을 대변해온 이경미 작가의 우주복을 입은 고양이 <나나아스트로>시리즈, 책을 통해 세상을 이해했던 작가의 과거에 대한 실마리와 이 세상을 이해하기 위한 어떤 몸짓 또는 그런 풍경을 하나의 장면으로 만든, 시리즈, 부푼 꿈의 초라한 현실을 마주한 듯 팽팽하고 화려하고 반짝이는 풍선이 바람이 빠져 찌그러진 시리즈, 작가만의 특별한 방식(고전서적의 판본을 바탕으로 잡지, 만화캐릭터, 타이포그래피 등)으로 작가의 흥미와 애정을 이끌어낸시대별 다양한 예술을 겹겹의 레이어 작업을 통해 표현하며 과거와 현재의 시간성이 중첩되는<뉴 버티컬 페인팅>시리즈 등의 주요 작품 20여점이 전시됩니다. 특히 이경미 작가는 회화 작품에 고정된 상을 제시하는 것이 아닌 저부조 등으로 생물학적 착시를 만들어 세상일이 하나의 소실점으로 귀결되지 않는다는 점을 작품에 드러내고자 하며, 계속 작품 세계를 확장해오고 있습니다.

홍익대학교 미술대학 판화과와 회화과 졸업(2000, 2004) 및 동대학원 회화과 졸업(2006)한 이경미 작가는 미국과 독일을 거쳐 현재는 한국뿐 아니라 홍콩, 대만, 중국 등의 여러 갤러리와 미술관 및 프로젝트를 통해 활발히 작품 활동을 해 오고 있습니다. 2019년에는알브레히트 뒤러 '요한의 묵시록’ 원화를 바탕으로하여 동시대성을 담은 '뉴 버티컬 페인팅' 시리즈를 발표하였고, 24회 석주미술상을 수상하였습니다.

The exhibition ‘Last night and Neurath's boat’ by artist Lee Kyoungmi (b. 1977, Gyeongju), renowned for her cat-themed artwork, marks her first solo exhibition in Daegu. This exhibition features significant works from various series, reflecting the artist's creative journey.

Among the principal works are those where Lee Kyoungmi has expressed herself through her beloved cat, Nana, depicted on canvas, in glass bottles, and on wood panels. This includes the series, which features cats in spacesuits. The and series provide clues about the artist's past and capture gestures or scenes representing her attempt to understand the world, as explored through her experiences with books. Meanwhile, the series presents deflated, crumpled balloons that were once inflated, vibrant, and shiny, reflecting the contrast between inflated dreams and their disappointing reality. Additionally, the series expresses various eras of art through layered work, reflecting the artist's interest and affection in a unique manner based on editions of classic books, magazines, comic characters, and typography. Over 20 pieces of In particular, Lee Kyoung-mi aims to demonstrate through her works that the world does not converge to a single vanishing point by creating biological illusions using techniques such as bas-relief, rather than presenting fixed forms in her paintings. She continues to expand her artistic world.

Lee Kyoung-mi, who graduated from Hongik University with a BFA in Printmaking (2000) and Painting (2004), and completed her Master’s degree in Painting (2006), has lived and worked in the United States and Germany for about nine years. She is now actively involved in the art scene in Korea, as well as in various galleries, museums, and projects in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. In 2019, she presented the 'New Vertical Painting' series, which, based on Albrecht Dürer's 'Apocalypse of John,' captures contemporary relevance, and received the 24th Seokju Art Prize.
